Bohol and Cebu.. sweeter the second time
Posted: Thu/Oct/2009
As soon as I found out that my twin brother Dennis is coming for a vacation, I was very excited and so happy that after 15 years of being away from him, I’d be spending time with one of the most important person of my life. The one I grew up with… and not only that, I get to meet the love of his life, Steph. Eventhough Cebu and Bohol will bring me back memories of the good times and bad times I had with an ex, I still chose to bring them there because I’m sure, they will never find another place like it. We’re also working on a budget so it would be the best destination to go to. There are a lot of things to do too. I made the itinerary which is my favorite thing to do on a trip. But this time, I want to make the most out of our time.
My friend Kenneth also advised me a day before that he’s going to Cebu and Bohol so I asked him to tag along. Plus… I haven’t spent much time with him lately. He’s a very good friend. And a funny one too, I’m pretty sure it would be ok with Dennis and Steph.
The more, the merrier and cheaper :)
As soon as we landed in Cebu, we went straight to Pier 4 to catch the ferry going to Tagbilaran. Kenken contacted a driver to pick us up and drive us around Bohol. He registered us under MR. POGI and friends. I thought he was only joking, but when we got there… We saw our driver Kuya Jun, holding the placard “MR. POGI and Friends”. We cant stop laughing our hearts out.
I just knew where to go but we haven’t booked our accommodations yet. Dennis wanted to stay at Nuts Hut along Loboc River, so I figured to check out the place first and if it’s not ok, we can go to Lost Horizon in Panglao, where I stayed before. Talk about randomness and spontaneity.
We arrived Bohol around 10 in the morning. The first stop is the Blood Compact Site; it’s just a small monument that if u don’t pay close attention or don’t know where it is... you’ll just pass by it. Next stop is the Baclayon church, 2nd oldest church in the Philippines. Then, we also stopped to see the Prony the Python and other birds. I wanted to carry one on my shoulder, like the one I did in Bangkok, but prony is too big and the other 2 were in there cages, not so clean.
We had our Loboc River Cruise Lunch. Looking forward to the local’s song and dance number and good food... although it’s a bit hot during lunch and we wanted the boat to start sailing. We also saw the Loboc Falls. After the hearty lunch, we’re back on the road and drove by the Man Made Forest which always brought me back to the good times.
Then off to the Butterfly Garden. I put a caterpillar on my hand. I always thought that it would be itchy but its not. It’s cool knowing that the female butterfly carries the male butterfly during mating. I was also afraid of touching the butterflies because I was told that I can go blind… it turns out that it was a misconception. The butterflies are so colorful and peaceful.
The Chocolate Hills was our next stop. I love this place… I really do. It’s so nice to look at the hills. It’s amazing! There is a wishing well also, but this time, I didn’t wish anymore… because the last wishes I made there never happened and will never happen. We dropped by the hanging bridge and took some pictures then off to our final stop which is to see the tarsiers! The Cuties. It was drizzling and it was sad to see the tarsiers under the leaves. Their furs are a bit wet. I feel so sorry for them. I can still see it in their eyes that they are not happy. I am guilty for disturbing them at this time of the day. I just hope that whoever is taking care of them is really taking care of them.
We have decided to stay in Panglao Island where the beach is located. I recommended Lost Horizon because the staffs are nice and very accommodating and the facilities are ok for the price. The food is also good and affordable. We ended the day with a good meal along the shore with lit torches… very romantic.
We were able to get a good price for our itinerary the next day. For only 1300pesos, we are going to see the see the dolphins which is at 6am then go island hopping. I was excited to go back to my favorite Island, The Virgin Island..and the other islands as well.
We woke up a bit late but were still able to see dolphins swim with our boat and the other boats. There were times I wanted to jump out of the boat to swim with them. I’m just not sure how the dolphins would react. I don’t want to scare them away. I also saw the largest rainbow so far in my life. It was double at some point of trip. I wasn’t able to get the whole picture in one frame. It was a good sight. It was exactly how I was feeling or thinking…as the song goes “there’s a rainbow always after the rain”
We went snorkeling in Balicasag Island. I cut foot with one of the corals I accidentally stepped on. It didn’t really bother me. I still swam and enjoyed the view underneath the water. I saw school of Jack fishes formed like a tornado. It’s scared me at first but I got over it. I fed the fishes too with the bread a bangkero gave me while I was swimming. It made me more decided to get a fish for myself to take care of.
It was getting hot so we decided to go to our last destination, Virgin Island. I’ve always been fascinated with sand bars. It was time for photo ops… hehe! You can see in our pictures that we really had a great time. It was also when we have seen a starfish bent its body like crazy. We never wanted to leave the island but we are getting hungry already. We have to get back to the Island and extend or booking for another night.
We had to transfer to another room because the room we stayed at was already reserved for the weekend. We got a better and bigger room which was still ok. Had lunch and went back to the room for a nap, while kenken decided to go diving. I wanted to come but I don’t want to stay on the boat. I also wanted to dive but I haven’t tried it. With my budget, I had to wait for the next time. We woke up around 6pm and the sun has set already. We had dinner at our favorite spot by the beach. After that we went for a stroll around the sea shore. Then went back to the room and pack our stuff and sleep.
We woke up early next morning to watch the sunrise and get sand and some shells too as souvenir. We also looked for Dennis’ HTC phone he lost last night. He didn’t know where he put it. It’s either he left it at the table after dinner or dropped it somewhere. To no avail, we were unable to find it. It was time to check out and head back to Cebu.
Kenken’s lady friend, Leah was nice enough to pick us up and take us around the city. We went to the Sto. Nino Basilica and the Cathedral and one street which looked like Binondo to me. We also got to see the Magellan’s Cross. Dennis was able to buy a ukulele for him.
A treat by kenken for lunch at Lemongrass Vietnamese and Thai Restaurant. We walked around Ayala Center for a bit and had to go back to the Pension House to get my stuff. I have to get to the airport soon. I didn’t want to go yet because they were going to Crown Regency which has this cool thing around its peak. I wanted to try but I don’t have the time. They still stayed another night in Cebu on to their next destination, El Nido for Dennis and Steph. Malapascua for Kenken... And as for me, I head back to Manila…To go back to work... Back to reality.
