It's not easy to find an affordable holiday that you don't have to book months or even years in advance. It's not impossible though, and there a few things you can be mindful of to help keep down your budget. Here are some ideas to help you find budget last minute holiday deals.

Travel in the off season
Avoiding the the peak season gives you better choice of accommodation and will be cheaper at most destinations. Make sure of course, that all the things you want to do on your holiday are still available during the off season, as some attractions may closer during quieter periods of the year.

Be flexible
If you're booking last minute, you might have to compromise on some aspects of your dream holiday. Prices will be low but so will choice, concentrate on getting the best deal for your money and don't sweat it if you don't get everything you wanted. Look at holidays and places that you wouldn't normally consider and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you find.

Go off the beaten path
Travelling last minute means little time to check out the place you're visiting but this is no excuse to fall into the common tourist traps. Popular tourist destinations mean higher prices for shopping, restaurants, bars and trips. Try for quieter resorts and towns and avoid the expense of the high-demand areas. This will also give you the chance to see the less frequently visited places around and a chance to see the country as it is outside the tourist hot-spots.
